6 Tips for Working with a DreamIinterpreter
Want to get the most out of working with a dream interpreter? Here are 6 secrets that change everything.
1. Set up the session THEN dream. You might seek out a dream interpreter because you had a dream you’re dying to understand. And that’s cool. But even better? Set the appointment up one to two weeks in advance and then see what dreams come. When your higher self knows you have an appointment with a dream interpreter, your dreams will be geared towards that particular interpreter and what you need to hear right now. It’s like going to a medium when spirits have been trying to get through to you. They’re like FINALLY. Finally we can get our message across. It’s the same with your dreams. You may find you dream more in that period than you have in years.
2. Record everything. You may wake up and think, “I had this long dream but all I remember is one little part of it.” If you think that little snippet of a dream can’t possibly mean anything, think again. Sometimes I get the best stuff from short fragments of a dream. Record it all, no matter how short.
3. Prepare for it to be deep. A lot of people come into their first session with an attitude like hey, this’ll be fun! Then they’re shocked at how deep and revealing their dreams are. Dream interpretation IS fun, but it’s also intensely revealing and can be emotional.
4. Prepare to learn about yourself. I can pretty much guarantee your dreams will show you things about yourself that you have forgotten, never consciously acknowledged, or even find shocking. But that’s the point. You can’t do anything about stuff that you don’t see, right? Bringing things into your conscious awareness is incredibly powerful.
5. Be prepared for it to be personal. I often see things in dreams the client has never told anyone, not even their bff or therapist. That’s why it’s important to see a dream interpreter with a high ethical standard, someone who can promise you complete confidentiality. You may feel more comfortable working with someone who doesn’t know you in real life.
6. Remember – it’s all you. The beauty of dreams is that insight in them, and the advice and messages—are not coming from the dream interpreter. They’re not some therapist’s idea of what you should do, or your mom’s. Your dreams are from your higher self, so it’s the highest version of YOU talking to YOU. And, for me, that makes all the difference in how seriously I take my dream messages.
